- The casting director James Scully has been speaking out about fashion’s equality problem for a long while and is happy to see change in the conservative lingerie market. “I think the idea of that kind of Vegas-style parade of overt showgirls is no longer modern,” he argues. “A pageant-type, Barbie show feels totally out of step. Even Miss America is trying to modernize the way they hold a competition.” - subtly hinting towards Victoria secrets runway shows and their choice of models and glitzy lingerie.
- The eclectic crew was cast by Samuel Ellis Scheinman. “Savage X Fenty show has just started and I can already tell that this lingerie brand is going to kick Victoria’s Secret’s butt. Strong athletic women, no silly headdresses or diamond bras. And the collection will be for sale online the minute the show ends,” tweeted the journalist Christina Binkley
- Enter Rihanna. Not content with merely shaking up a beauty market that seemed committed to ignoring non-white women, she’s now Fenty-fying our underwear drawers. She’s spotted the gap in the market for underwear that doesn’t equate female excellence with a penchant for goji berries and 5am starts to get to the gym. Her Savage x Fenty show, presented during New York Fashion Week, was a festival of flesh of all different skin tones. There were curves and stretchmarks, sagging stomach and six-packs, love handles and super ‘fupas’ (thanks again, Beyoncé) and enormous pregnant bellies - quote from a vogue article “how Rihannas savage Fenty is changing the lingerie game’’ - https://www.vogue.co.uk/article/rihanna-fenty-is-changing-the-lingerie-game
- Reformation have brought out a new line of ethical lingerie where the collection is priced from $12-$45 and is made from Lenzing Tencel, recycled lace and eco mesh. However size ranges are only XS-L which is not as inclusive as savage x Fenty. It is a female-founded company with a leadership team made up of around 80% women.
- “In today’s culture, our self-worth is too often based on appearance, and lingerie campaigns tend to focus only on our bodies, While it’s arguably hard to show lingerie without getting half-naked, today we wanted to hone in on other qualities as well. Like, you know, brains and accomplishments. Because that’s hot.” - quote from the instagram page of reformation, again hinting towards brands like Victoria secret who completely hone in on the way you look.
- Uye Surana is dedicated to sustainable, thoughtful design. Their materials are sourced from a healthy and growing list of local suppliers, some trusted overseas suppliers, and a proportion of reclaimed deadstock. And to top it off, they're one of the only lingerie brands currently serving such a wide size range. - https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/ethical-and-sustainable-lingerie-brands-better-than-victorias-secret_us_5a69f1cce4b002283009e17b
