Styling

“Early fashion nodded to a classic mod style, but as the dancing got faster and the hours in the club longer, the burgeoning style tribe needed to carve its own identity”

I  researched into mod fashion, 60's/70's fashion and what northern soul fashion in Sheffield looked like.
Certain prominent brands that were worn:
- Fred Perry
- Doc Martens,
-Farrah
-Levi's
- Ray Bans.

I also took a lot of inspiration from the film 'Northern Soul (2014)' directed by Elaine Constantine which introduces us to the style of northern soul and how it originated from American soul rising up in the 1970's.

Northern soul movement originated from America and more specifically black soul music. They didn't just try to copy their style of music but also their style in dancing and fashion.

Items such as the dapper, jazzy suit and braces and brogues were defiantly slithering into the northern towns of England.

The mod scene slowly started to branch off from American soul and become their own identity.

As the clubs got bigger, the clothes get baggier: light and loose-fitting, high-waisted, ultra-baggy Oxford Trousers with tight, sporty vests became the go-to uniform. You can see all these aspects of the mod scene represented in out images and video. We used: heavy chunky Doc Martens, Fred Perry t-shirts and jackets, wide baggy checkered trousers, braces and super tight skinny Levi's.
